Ms. Marie Sock, an entrepreneur turned politician, has said that her candidacy to run for the upcoming 2021 Presidential Election in the Gambia is meant to bring together the deeply divided political structures of the country.
"This is a
journey for me, the women and the youth of this country. I represent the women
and the youth of the Gambia for a better chance. I call it Vision
2021 as it is the revolution of change for all women and the youth.
For the Gambia to move forward and for the women of the Gambia to be recognized and
respected in the world, we have ten cardinal pillars in our
manifesto” she revealed.
Ms. Sock further
stated that her vision is to transform the country
with the ten cardinal pillars if elected into
office in 2021.
She made these remarks
at a press briefing held at her Secretariat on Saturday in
Bijilo.
"We are going
to work on ten cardinal pillars, which are the economy of the
country, education, medical health, youth empowerment, price regulation,
agricultural development, infrastructure, crime rate reduction, job
creation, and increment of minimum wages in The Gambia," she
disclosed.
The independent
presidential candidate decried the country’s poor leadership and
lack of transparency coupled with disregard of the rule of
law over the past decades. She observed that these are the
main factors contributing to the country’s backwardness in
terms of development.
"We need to
change the game, and end corruption. We cannot end it 100
percent but slowly and surely, we can make a change. I am here as the
captain of the ship and I am here to steer the wheels to its right
course. I am doing this for the youths of The Gambia because they do not have a
voice. I want the youths to start having voices. I want the young girls to
start speaking up, coming out showing their talents and who they really are”
she remarked.
