Gambia:Exhumation of November, 1994 Alleged Coup Plotters Underway

Authorities of the Gambia government have on Saturday, 6th March 2019, started exhuming the dead bodies of the November 11, 1994 alleged coup plotters, who were said to have been buried in a mass grave at the Yundum Barracks in the West Coast Region.

The remains of more than a dozen unidentified soldiers who were said to have been buried at the Yundum Barracks, are expected to be exhumed upon completeion of the task involved.

Superintendent Thomas R.J Gomez, an investigator at the TRRC, who doubles as The Gambia’s only trained forensic investigator, told our reporter in an exclusive interview that there is going to be different methods which wiĺl enable his team to obtain proper identification of the remains, in case they are found.

“We will be looking into two phases; and the DNA method would require family members to come and do a test,” he asserted.
